Peak Experiences are four day, pre-orientation adventure trips offered by the Outdoor Pursuits program of Fort Lewis College. These student led backcountry trips provide an ideal opportunity for new students to get to know one another while traveling in the wilderness areas surrounding Durango, Colorado. Peak Experiences is designed to ease the transition into college life. These trips help students to understand the culture of Fort Lewis College, develop relationships with other new students, and ask questions of trained student leaders who have already been at the college. Participants travel together, camp together, share stories, and form friendships that continue on campus.
- All levels and abilities are welcome. No prior experience is required.
- The trips are four days in length and consist of mountain backpacking and camping in the San Juan mountains surrounding Durango.
- Participation is voluntary and space is very limited. Participants will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis.
