The best of the best student research on display at the FLC Undergraduate Research Symposium

From analyzing the geometry and statistical patterns of the country music group Lady Antebellum to understanding the synthesis and characterization of P,P’-1,4-diphospha-cyclohexane derivatives and their metal coordination reactions, the Fort Lewis College 2012 Undergraduate Research Symposium is full of fascinating research projects, all led by FLC students.
 
The Symposium, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Thursday, April 19 beginning at 12:20 p.m. Students from the FLC School of Natural & Behavioral Sciences will present their research projects that they have been working on all semester. The day will begin in the Student Union Vallecito Room with oral presentations running until 6:15 p.m. Overlapping will be poster presentations in the Student Union Ballroom beginning at 5:15 p.m.

White House appointee to speak at Fort Lewis College

In December, President Obama signed an executive order creating the White House Initiative on American Indian and Alaska Native Education. Dr. William Mendoza, a member of the Oglala Sioux and a graduate of Fort Lewis College, was chosen as the director of this new initiative.

 

On Thursday, March 22, Dr. Mendoza will return to Fort Lewis College for a public presentation entitled “Educational Opportunities for all American Indian and Alaska Native Students.”

Professional experience is the goal behind collaboration between Career Services and Durango Chamber of Commerce

A new internship program coordinated by the FLC Career Services office and the Durango Chamber of Commerce is creating opportunities for students to get that hands-on professional experience, earning workplace wisdom and insights, while deepening their skills and knowledge.

Conference brings adventure education professionals to FLC campus

There's no better setting for outdoor education enthusiasts to gather than on a campus surrounded by inspiring mountain vistas.

That's what the members of the Association for Experiential Education will get when the 2012 Rocky Mountain Region AEE conference convenes on the Fort Lewis College campus Friday, March 23, through Sunday, March 25. The AEE's Rocky Mountain Region includes Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Sonora and Sinaloa, Mexico.

And for students in the Fort Lewis College Adventure Education program, it's an opportunity to meet and work with professionals and practitioners in the field, as well as other students, professors, and educators.
