Support for Student Engagement

“Preparing citizens for the common good in an increasingly complex world” is part of the mission of Fort Lewis College.  The Center for Civic Engagement believes that by engaging FLC students in community issues through curricular and co-curricular problem solving, service, and research, we can transform our students into informed and engaged citizens.  In Fort Lewis classrooms, community-based learning and research (CBLR) is a teaching methodology that helps to achieve this mission by transforming students into informed and engaged citizens.  Because CBLR curriculum is both academically rigorous and civically conscious, it creates opportunities for students to develop and apply knowledge that contributes to the common good.

The Center for Civic Engagement also supports engagement in the community outside of the classroom.  The Center often collaborates with Student Affairs staff on one-day service events and community engagement activities of campus housing and student leadership entities.
